Seijin no Hi 2021: AKB48 “The Golden Try-Generation”
#AKB48 – Since 2009, members of the Japanese idol group AKB48 have been celebrating their Coming of Age (Seijin no Hi) at Kanda Myojin in Tokyo. On 10 January 2022, AKB48 members, Oguri Yui, Honda Hitomi, Yamauchi Mizuki, Shitao Miu, Shimoguchi Hinana, Yasuda Kana, Yamabe Ayu, Ishiwata Sena, Kuramoto Miyuu, Takahashi Sayaka, Hama Sayuna and Uemi Sorano, celebrated their Coming of Age. Until 2020, all Japanese groups of AKB48 Group celebrated the ceremony together. However, due to the Coronona Pandemic and the separation of the AKB48 Group, the groups have been celebrating separately since 2021.
Contrary to what was hoped for, the sky turned cloudy when the members faced the press for the first time after the ceremony in front of the Shrine. Members showed up in colorful traditional furisodes (kimono version for unmarried women). Some members gave the gowns a modern touch with boots and berets. Oguri Yui, the representative of this year’s generation, answered the traditional question about the name of the generation by saying: “There were many suggestions from the members and everyone was wondering what the name would be. It is the year of the tiger and like a tiger we want to lead the way. We want to try and encourage many things. We are “The Golden Try Generation.”
